Assignment:

 

• You will be assigned on European Explorer

• Use the research guidelines (below) about to gather information about your explorer to prepare your presentation.

• Write a 5 paragraph essay about your explorer

• Prepare a 2-3 minute oral presentation of your Explorer in first person (speak as if you are the Explorer himself!)

• On the day of the presentations, dress as your European Explorer

• Oral presentations need to be memorized and rehearsed prior to the day of the event

 

Research Guidelines:

 

Background

When was your explorer born? Where was your explorer born? What education did he have?

Routes Explored

Describe the journey(s) your explorer took.  For each journey include the year(s) it took place, who or what country sent the explorer on that journey, the names of the countries or places explored, and oceans sailed to get there (specific routes.)  If there were several journeys, write all this information for each expedition.  Do not describe any more than 3 journeys even if there are more.

 

Hardships

Dangers encountered on the trip(s).  Was anyone or anything against him or trying to prevent him from making his exploration? Were there any misconceptions about traveling on the seas, nature, or superstitions during that time period?  

Accomplishments

What is your explorer known for?  Make him sound super cool.  How did that lead to future discoveries?

Death

How and when did your explorer die?
